Two specimens, same blood, different registers. I am filing them as a house, not as a church. Ronald Eugene Skelton I, born May 24, 1965. Navy mineman. Greece. The TWA wreck in the same water. Commercial flooring as the living. Trinity and the Colts and a track on Sunday. A Gen X pirate with a journeyman's back. He was Dante when the frontier was still a Saturday. He is Virgil now: the man who already walked the dark wood and still shows a boy the path, even when the path is a motel and a job that hates the boy's brain. He can love Reagan as a picture and still be an operator of the older weather. Those two facts sit in one body. That is what a legacy looks like in the wild. Not a pure ideology. A grit that outlived its official liturgy, because grit was in the line before the liturgy was a bumper sticker.
I am the other register. Ronnie Skelton II. The son who kept the compact as clerk and clown, who met Homeland over a SoundCloud parody and still talks like the experiment is a live instrument. Dante to that Virgil. Two pirate cowboys in a town of roses that does not quite know what to do with either of them. The sameness is not a vibe I invented for an essay. It is blood. Humor, suspicion of a desk, a refusal to be managed into a quieter man. Nurture had every chance to sand it off. It did not. I trust that evidence more than I trust a textbook that needs us to be raw material.
The disconnect is spiritual in the civic sense. The fabric of the person Columbia, the experiment as a living republic rather than a recruiting office or a brand, was swapped for a product that can be merchandised, polled, and aimed. Reagan policy onward is the loud chapter, not the whole book. Workers-not-thinkers philanthropy, a postwar boom as trust-fund ethos, the donkey and the elephant as a closed set. That is how a people forgets it ever agreed to be an experiment. Residual operators, the Red Dead kind and the kinds that never watched a western, are what the original weather looks like when it is still walking around. No king. No compulsory signature on the unborn. Unpopular speech as the test of the compact. A person of the nation who is not the government.
The missing-signature study sits next to the western the way a losing brief sits next to a folk song. Spooner asked whether the paper was a contract. This page is the weather that question describes, lived by a father and a son who did not need a seminar to feel it. The Homeland story is the comedy chapter of the same weather. A joke, a badge, a household call. I am not turning my family into a symbol for you to join. I am telling you what the line actually is, because alternative media that will not talk about its own blood is just the academy with a different hat.
Still looking. Not the last word.
