The modern hearing cycle is easy to date and worth dating, because the polite version of this subject likes to talk as if nothing official ever happened. July 26, 2023, the House Oversight subcommittee on national security heard David Grusch, Ryan Graves, and David Fravor. Grusch, under oath, said the United States has run a multi-decade program to retrieve and reverse-engineer craft of non-human origin, and that he had been denied access. He did not put a vehicle on the table. He put a claim of a program, and a claim of retaliation, into the record. Fravor described the 2004 Tic Tac off the Nimitz. Graves described objects that were not in the FAA's picture of what belongs in the sky. I was glad they were allowed to talk. I do not think a hearing is a religion. I also do not think a hearing is nothing.

November 13, 2024, the same committee sat again. Luis Elizondo, Michael Shellenberger, Michael Gold, and Tim Gallaudet were among the witnesses. Elizondo described legacy crash-retrieval efforts and a culture of ridicule used as security. Shellenberger talked about a purported program and about immaculate constellation as a name in play. The useful product of the day, for me, was not a final species identification. It was another hour of officials and former officials saying the paperwork is stranger than the press conference. AARO's Historical Record Report, March 8, 2024, is the counter-filing: no empirical evidence, in the volume they were willing to sign, of off-world technology or of a hidden reverse-engineering program. I keep both. A report can be a finding and a boundary. The boundary is part of the data.

The public staging of disclosure also has a permission problem. Appeal to the famous physicist. Appeal to the credential. Appeal to the skeptic as the adult in the room. The workers study is the older mechanism: who is funded to decide what counts as true. Some personalities in this subject perform the vanguard whether they mean to or not. That does not make every witness a plant. It means the algorithm of permission is part of the social life of the reports. The dull razor is the alibi that calls the pile an accident, or a hobby for cranks. I do not think you are a crank for watching the hearing. I think the ridicule was a tool, and it worked for a long time.

Method, so the shelves stay shelves. Sensor data, range reports, FOIA, sworn speech, and experiencer nights are different grades. Occupant testimony is a primary source for the person who was there. It is not automatically a laboratory verdict for me, and it is not automatically a joke. I am not going to demand a craft on the White House lawn before a hearing counts. I am also not going to treat every light in the trees as an embassy. Ultra-terrestrial, extra-terrestrial, breakaway human, sensor ghost: hypotheses. I can hold more than one without marrying one. Pais's patents and Cyborg Soldier 2050 are the technology study. Star Gate is the ESP study. Objects and programs are in the record. Who flies all of them is not settled. I like the unsettled part. It is where the next document usually is.
